The Michigan Department of Treasury and Michigan State University Extension (MSU Extension) want to make you aware of our next and newest Fiscally Ready Communities training opportunity, Getting Grant Ready. This FREE training is an hour-and-a-half webinar that's designed to assist appointed and elected officials.

Getting Grant Ready

This training helps local governments align grant opportunities with community goals, assess capacity to manage grants, and develop proactive policies and procedures. Participants will learn best practices for identifying, applying for, and managing grants to strengthen fiscal sustainability and maximize funding impact.

Intended Audience: Any local government employee or vendor, including clerks, treasurers, elected officials, finance directors, city, township, or village managers, auditors, accounting staff, certified public accountants and accounting firms that work in the area of accounting, finance, bookkeeping, etc.  


Issuance Date: November 25, 2025

The Michigan Department of Treasury guides local governments on accounting and auditing through Numbered Letters. To keep this information relevant, we are updating and removing documents from 1993 to the present, aiming to refresh 20% of these publications annually. This process will include formatting updates and verifying all web links, with some documents potentially needing significant revisions or removal.  

The exposure draft period ended on September 25, 2025. The Local Audit and Finance Division is issuing four updated numbered letters and removing five outdated numbered letters.
