[Michlib-l] Friends group as committee of the city

Hello! Does anyone have a Friends of the Library group that is a "committee of the city"? We are a class IV city library and our Friends group has been active for over 40 years. They are currently a non-501(c)3 nonprofit, but are researching alternatives, predominantly due to liability concerns. Pros and cons (or just thoughts) are appreciated!
