In conjunction with the governing Library Board of Trustees, staff and appropriate community representatives the Library Director plans, organizes, develops and directs all aspects of library service to residents of the district. Responsibilities include developing and monitoring the annual budget; preparing and filing all required legal and financial reports mandated by the county and the state; all aspects of personnel management; policy development and implementation; oversight of facilities and collections; representing the library as an active, engaged community partner; supporting fundraising and grant development; and working with the Friends of HPL. Minimum qualifications are a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program and five years of progressively responsible library experience including three years in a supervisory role. The successful candidate will also demonstrate ethical leadership and create an atmosphere of collaboration and open communication with a strong commitment to customer service, inclusion, diversity and community engagement. Other desired qualifications include a knowledge of public library trends and best practices, participation in professional organizations, and a knowledge of Illinois library law. Successful experience reporting to a governing board and working in a union environment are preferred qualifications. Compensation. The starting salary range is $81,281 - 101,601 (dependent on qualifications) with a competitive benefits package.
