As a school librarian or school library worker, you should join our Michigan school library organization: http://www.mimame.org/ Some schools are using ESSER funds for their school library. Title I schools can also allocate that money to resources for the school library. We talk about stuff like this during our professional development and sometimes if there is new information, we discuss it at our annual conference. We have an advocacy committee with some funding experts that send out information to our listserv. If you want to ask more questions, please respond directly to me: kjanek@bloomfield.org I just replied to this group in case there are any more school librarians who are not yet part of our professional organization. Hello Honora
Under the current school code, part 20 of 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.1451(5) & MCL 380.1451a
http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?mcl-451-1976-2-20, School Public libraries are prohibited from levying a designated voted library millage. School Public Libraries are intended to be funded via the school district millage.
The original law (MCL 397.1451 authorized a millage until a 1994 amendment repealed that authorization).
Please don’t hesitate to contact me for additional information on this topic.
You may also wish to consult your library’s attorney about funding questions.
I hope this is helpful!
Sincerely,
Clare

Good morning!
I have a question for any of the Public/School Libraries out there. Our district would like to explore trying for a millage in the near future, and I was curious is there anything different/extra that needs to be done because of being Public/School Library as opposed to a Public Library only?
Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Honora Mason
