Job Opening Vicksburg District Library:
Due to the retirement of our current director, the Board of Trustees of the Vicksburg District Library is seeking an experienced administrator with a proven record of financial management, community involvement and general management skills.   The successful candidate will be out-going, tech savvy and a strong advocate for libraries.
Vicksburg District Library has a service area population of just over 12,000.  The library has a dedicated millage and is a member of the Southwest Michigan Library Cooperative.  With a staff of 12, the library is a focal point for the community which offers a wide variety of programming for adults and children.  As a community center, the library hosts the Village Council meetings, blood drives, and Farmer’s Market Committee among other organizations and clubs.  The Vicksburg District Library serves Brady Township, The Village of Vicksburg and Schoolcraft Township, excluding the Village of Schoolcraft.  Vicksburg is approximately 15 miles south of Kalamazoo and offers small town living with access to shopping, cultural activities, sports, and recreation.
REQUIREMENTS: A graduate degree in Library and Information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association, a minimum of five years library experience, a Librarian II Certificate from the Library of Michigan to be upgraded to a Librarian I permanent certificate within two years.  Strong verbal and written communication skills, a thorough understanding of library technology, ability to work in a Windows platform, oversee personnel, be proficient in customer service, a problem solver, and represent the library in the community and with professional organizations. Also must develop the library budget with the office manager and library board, maintain the building and grounds of the library, coordinate with staff to order books and other library materials, write reports, replace PC’s as need and be strong advocate for libraries.
COMPENSATION: Upper 40’s depending on experience, health insurance and retirement plan.  Two weeks vacation, major holidays off, and sick time.
