Assistant Professor, Humanities Librarian
Oakland University’s Kresge Library seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented humanities librarian to join us in fostering academic excellence and student success by expertly integrating teaching, information and technology to advance the learning, research and creative activities of our faculty and students. The successful candidate will serve as subject specialist and liaison to one or more academic departments in the humanities and to the thriving Honors College, and will be responsible for providing in-depth research and instructional support to faculty and students; developing relevant, responsive collections in all formats; and promoting library resources and services to the campus community.
Responsibilities include:
Faculty and departmental liaison work, building relationships and collaborating with humanities departments
Collection development and management for humanities disciplines, including selecting, evaluating, and deselecting materials in various formats
Information literacy instruction, including developing and teaching library workshops, tutorials, and course-integrated sessions in multiple formats, and creation of research guides and instructional materials specific to humanities disciplines
Reference services and research consultations to support faculty and students in the humanities and other disciplines
Maintaining current awareness of issues, trends, standards, and best practices in higher education and the library and information science profession, including those related to subject area and scholarly communication
Contributing to broader scholarly conversations through publications and presentations
Participating in library, university, and professional service activities
Minimum qualifications:
Master of Library Science degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
Demonstrated subject knowledge in humanities-related disciplines.
This is a tenure-track faculty position with an eight-month schedule; attainment of tenure is dependent upon job performance, scholarship, and service. Salary will be determined by credentials and experience. Oakland University offers excellent fringe benefits including TIAA/CREF retirement plan.
