Purpose: Michlib-L, moderated by the Library of Michigan, is your professional space for:

Library-related discussion
Resource sharing
Advice and support

Vendor solicitations are not allowed.

All messages are archived and visible to all subscribers.

Community Expectations

Constructive Discussion - Help us keep things productive and positive. Share ideas, not criticism.

Disagreements - It’s okay to disagree. Just keep it respectful. Critique ideas, not individuals.

Kindness - We all make mistakes. If you notice a misstep, consider reaching out privately.

Focus - Keep posts relevant to the list’s purpose.

Clarity - Use clear, descriptive subject lines so others can easily follow the conversation.

Contact Info - Include your name and institution (if applicable) in your messages.

Efficiency - Not every reply needs to go to the whole list.

Use Reply to respond privately
Use Reply All to respond to the full list
Short messages like “Thanks!” or “I agree!” are best sent directly to the original poster.

Collate Responses - If you receive multiple off-list replies, consider summarizing and sharing them back with the group.

Attachments & Archives

Attachments are removed from the archives and digest versions.

To ensure your content reaches everyone, embed text directly in your message

If formatting or images are essential, upload the file to your website and share the link

Top Tip for Michlib-L Subscribers

If your message doesn’t appear on the list, check that you’re sending from the email address you used to subscribe.

Messages from non-subscribed addresses won’t post. Need help with your subscription? I’m happy to check on it for you!

If your posts don’t follow these guidelines, we’ll reach out before unsubscribing you.
