Collection & Digital Resources Manager

$ 58,552 to $72,301 annually + full benefits

The Herrick District Library is seeking a forward-thinking and detail-oriented Librarian to manage the Collection & Digital Resources department (CDR). The CDR Manager collaboratively oversees development of the library’s collections, both physical and digital, and manages a team of selection, cataloging, and processing specialists. 

This full-time position requires a master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution and five years of experience in a public library as a professional librarian. Previous management experience is desired.

Weekly schedule: 40 hours per week, generally 9:00am-6:00pm on Monday-Friday, and the occasional Sunday 1:00pm-6:00pm, hours may vary and there is some flexibility.

Position: Librarian II - Collection & Digital Resources Manager

Grade: A-3 

Salary: $58,552 to $72,301 annually. Exempt position.  Generous benefits package.

Reports to: Director

Position Summary:

Manages the Collection & Digital Resources department (CDR). The CDR Manager collaboratively oversees development of the library’s collections, both physical and digital, and manages a team of selection, cataloging, and processing specialists.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication, organizational and problem-solving skills and demonstrate a deep understanding of collection development and technical services functions and systems, including ILS.

Essential Functions:

1. Leadership – Active Member of the Management Team. Deeply involved in setting direction for the library. Applies library’s mission, core values, and establishes goals with the department. Establishes annual departmental budget. Regularly serves as supervisor-in-charge of the library.
2. Collection Development - Directs the collection development team responsible for selection, maintenance, and de-selection of materials.  Plans and coordinates the creation of new and special collections. Understands and applies collection development policy across all formats and protects diversity of collections.
3. Acquisitions & Processing - Allocates and administers the expenditure of collection funds. Manages processing team; coordinates inputting, processing, mending, and withdrawal procedures. Prioritizes work and establishes technical services workflows to maximize efficiency and access to materials. Selects and works with library jobbers and vendors.
4. Catalog, ILS & Discovery -  Oversees and participates in bibliographic record creation and maintenance of a shared ILS.  Sets local cataloging standards to maximize discovery of physical and digital resources. Works closely with Cooperative staff.
5. Electronic Resources – Works cross departmentally to plan and coordinate the selection, acquisition, implementation, and evaluation of public electronic resources. Performs contract negotiation with vendors.
6. Data Management - Collects and utilizes library statistical data for reports and to understand trends and improve services.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions. 

· Occasionally requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds 

• Frequently requires use of office equipment as well as long periods of sitting, standing, or walking as needed 

· Occasionally requires stooping and crouching 

· Occasionally requires reaching, including overhead reaching 

Qualifications: 

· Master’s degree in library science is required 

• Minimum of five years of experience in a public library as a professional librarian
• Management experience is preferred
• Experience with III Sierra and Collection HQ is helpful.
