Library Director
Rochester Hills Public Library
The Rochester Hills Public Library, located in Rochester, Michigan, serves Rochester Hills, Rochester and Oakland Township through the main library (76,000 square feet), two bookmobiles and six mini-branches in a 72 square mile suburban area. The library staff consists of 130 (60 FTE) employees and approximately 125 volunteers (mostly working in the mini-branches). The Library serves a population of 100,485 people. The 2020 budget will be $4.8 million generated through a dedicated library millage. The collection of 280,000 items generates an annual circulation of 2,000,000 items.
The library director reports to a six-member, non-partisan, governing board and is expected to provide strategic, visionary and inspirational leadership to the library. The Rochester Hills Public Library has a long history of providing high quality traditional and innovative library services in a welcoming environment. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, possess strong written and oral communication skills, have the ability to relate well to the public and library staff, possess good organizational skills, and be progressive in his/her approach to library service and programming. The director will be required to promote public relations and outreach, staff development and team building, and to provide support and leadership for an operating millage campaign in the near future.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school
· Eligible for a Permanent Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan.
· Ten years of professional library experience with a minimum of 5 years of high-level administrative experience. Experience at the director of assistant director level.
· Completion of a successful background check.
Salary: $110,726 - $157,598 depending on qualifications.
