Here's what Shepler's update says today: IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR TODAY'S DEPARTURES: Due to limited capacity on the boat, we are issuing timed tickets for the ferry departures. These tickets can only be picked up at the ticket office in St. Ignace and cannot be reserved over the phone. All passengers must have a timed ticket to board. Commuters, please stop at the ticket office to get a timed ticket. Our 11:30am departure is SOLD OUT. Our next available departure is set for 2:00pm, with a 4:30pm to follow. Departures off the Island today will not be at a scheduled time. We will be dropping off passengers at the dock, picking up returning passengers, and immediately returning to St. Ignace. Please check with the Island Dock Master for more details, if you are on the Island needing to get to the mainland today. On Tue, Apr 29, 2014 at 2:19 PM, Director <mackinaw3@gmail.com> wrote:
Hello everyone. I have just arrived at the Grand Hotel after a ride on the Shepler's Cargo Ferry. The ride was smooth as could be expected with gale force winds and ice in the marinas. At no time did I feel unsafe or ill on the boat and I hope you will not cancel because the wind is supposed to be much calmer tomorrow.
It will be crowded and may take a little longer to get to your destination but that's part of the adventure.
Dress warm for the walk or ride up to the Grand Hotel but once you get here it is as warm and they give you coffee.
I hope to see you all here tomorrow.

Hello all,
Surely you don’t want to miss out on this every other year opportunity just because Michigan has had a bit of weather this winter. Shannon and her team have worked diligently on this conference so it will be one of or THE best ever. The transportation is being worked out by Shannon and the transportation folks, and she expects that everyone should be able to get over to the island. The weather is expected to improve even more by the time you will be ready to return to the mainland. Please do not let all of the work that went into getting this conference ready go to waste.
Enjoy the conference! Say hi to Marian for me J

Hi, We are curious if others are deciding not to attend the conference because of the dicey conditions. This is a video of the *Sacre Bleu*, the only boat Shepler’s has running, leaving St. Ignace yesterday. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10154104350790217&set=vb.199146720216&type=2&theater
I called Shepler’s this morning to ask how 150 people would fit on this boat. They hope to be able to put buses and vans on the deck and fill them with people, but they aren’t sure they will be able to because yesterday ice was coming over the bow. Getting there is only our first concern. With a shift in the wind it could jam up again and we could be stranded on the island. Ferry service is still subject to cancellation.
Are we the only chickens?
