A recent memo highlighting the achievements of the E-Rate modernization orders has revealed the following: Michigan received a 232% increase in Category 2 funding (for internal
connections needed to enable high-speed broadband connectivity) and that nearly 50,000 schools and libraries nation-wide received Wi‐Fi
support in 2015, compared to zero in funding years 2013 and 2014. The memo also reports a drop in the median price of connectivity per Mbps from
$22.00 in 2013 to $11.73 in 2015 and $7.05 in 2016. The report also points out that Category 2 budgets will begin to expire in 2019 and action to fund the program is therefore needed.
