Human Resources Part II:
HR Basics – The “soft" skills, and some hard ones too!

Part II of a two-part series, this workshop will focus on both the soft skills and the hard skills of human resource management.  Specific areas of focus will include the recruitment and hiring process, with time devoted to mock interviews covering a myriad of scenarios that can happen during the interview process. In addition, there will be a discussion of performance management for library staff.  Similar to Part I of this series, this will be a highly interactive session that will attempt to meet the needs of those who attend.  This session is open to all, regardless of whether or not you attended Part I.

All things related to human resource management in the library are fair game, so bring your questions along with you.  Brian will bring "hard skill" resources along in case you have uncertainties about legal/policy types of issues.  If there is time, we will even play a game Brian likes to call "stump the HR guy" in which participants submit challenging scenarios in writing that will be randomly selected and openly discussed for everyone's benefit.

A member of the Society for Human Resource Managers (SHRM), Brian Mortimore brings 20 years’ experience as a Human Resource professional in healthcare, higher education, and the library industry. He holds degrees from Lake Superior State University and a Michigan State University (MSU) where he studied organizational communications and human resource management.
