MLA is excited to invite students to participate in the Youth Summit for the Right to Read, taking place Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Clinton-Macomb Public Library Main Branch.
This one-day event is designed for high school and college students who are passionate about making a difference in their communities. Through discussions, hands-on workshops, and peer connection, attendees will explore the importance of intellectual freedom, community building, and lifelong learning—values at the heart of strong civic engagement.
Facilitated by Kelly Jensen, editor and writer at Book Riot and a nationally recognized advocate for the freedom to read, the summit will help students understand the intersectionality of activism—how issues of access, equity, and expression connect across education, culture, and society. Participants will leave inspired and equipped with practical tools to advocate for the right to read and other causes that matter to them.
Registration is free and includes lunch, a commemorative t-shirt, and mileage reimbursement at $0.70 per mile (up to $100) for those who submit a completed form at the event.
We’d love your help sharing this opportunity with students, especially those involved in leadership programs, student government, social justice or diversity clubs, and library or English classes. Flyers and social media graphics you can post or share directly with students and families are available on our website: https://www.milibraries.org/youth-summit
Thank you for helping us connect students with this meaningful experience in community, learning, and advocacy. Together, we can empower the next generation of informed, engaged leaders!
