Statewide Library Services Student Assistant

The Library of Michigan is looking for a customer service oriented and technically savvy student to assist our Statewide Library Services department. The majority of the work will involve assisting library consultants carry out services and programs for the Michigan library community using Library and Services Technology Act funds. A high degree of proficiency with MS Excel is required. The student assistant will be working with the MeL Team in compiling statistics as well as assisting Library Consultants on continuing education and early literacy projects.

The student employee will also assist with general office tasks such as sorting mail, filing, handling calls and queries from the library community and other projects. This position requires good computer skills, excellent attention to detail, the ability to quickly learn new software and high degree of customer service.

This position will provide a broad view of library systems and services from a state library perspective. This is an excellent opportunity for a LIS student interested in gaining insight to state level operations.

This is a part time position working no more than 24 hours/week.

EDUCATION:

Current enrollment in vocational or technical school, or post-secondary educational institution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Excellent knowledge of standard office procedures and computer applications
Library or archives related training or experience
Ability to focus on detailed work
Ability to resolve problems
Ability to communicate effectively

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

The student must provide evidence of enrollment or acceptance to an educational institution.
