Charlotte Community Library's CharLit Book Club reads contemporary books from different genres. We formed last June so I only have a few titles to share. They have all been really well received & promoted good discussions. A few do contain some profanity & I'll try to note those for you.

The Candy House - Jennifer Egan (Literary Fiction/Speculative Fiction) - may not be best for your group (sex, drugs & rock and roll w/profanity)
The Swimmers - Julie Otsuka (Literary Fiction) This is an awesome choice dealing with community, dementia, loss, generational relationships
The Marriage Portrait - Maggie O'Farrell (Historical Fiction) Everyone loved this & are still talking about this book
How to Sell a Haunted House - Grady Hendrix (Horror/Comedy/Southern Gothic) This was just plain fun for October. May have a little profanity & a lot of creepy, possessed puppets/dolls.
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries - Heather Fawcett (Cozy Romantasy) - Light, fun, cozy read
The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi - Shannon Chakraborty (Historical Fiction/Fantasy) Main character a retired lady pirate now a single parent pulled back into the game. Occasional profanity.
How the Word is Passed - Clint Smith (Non-fiction/American History/Race/Social Justice) Prompted one of the best discussions we've had!
All My Rage - Sabaa Tahir - (YA Contemporary Fiction) - Our adults LOVED this book, we could have talked for hours, so many themes. Occasional profanity.
The Power of Trees - Peter Wohlleben (Non-fiction/Nature/Climate change) - We invited a retired horticulture professor to help us deep dive into the science
The Firekeeper's Daughter - Angeline Boulley (YA Fiction/Mystery/First Nation/Michigan) - reading as part of Great Michigan Read along with our YA group for combined discussion
Starter Villain - John Scalzi (Science Fiction/Humor) We're using as light palate cleanser but has some very foul-mouthed dolphins so likely not for your group
