Hello Everyone,

It looks like my library may finally join the RFID world. We currently have 1 self-check machine that we use via barcode scanner; it is RFID enabled so we can use it once we do the conversion of tags. We will not be getting any additional self-checks, security gates or an automated material handler/sorter at this time. We simply want quicker checkout/in with RFID and easier inventory control with a handheld scanner.

I have quotes from 3M and MK Solutions. In the Midwest, 3M is the main provider so it is hard to find libraries that can give feedback on using MK. Have any of you used MK Solutions? If so, was your experience positive or negative? Do you recommend them? Likewise for 3M? Anybody with experience with BOTH companies?

Also, big news if you haven’t heard yet, Bibliotheca acquired 3M Libraries (http://www.bibliotheca.com/3/index.php/en-us/enews-media/global-press-releases/529-bibliotheca-announces-significant-expansion-us). Can’t help but wonder how this will affect pricing and service as they transition.

Have a wonderful day,

Nyama
