Last week we had an interesting program on Rosie the
Riveter presented by Baily Sisoy Isgro, owner of Detroit History Tours. She wrote an award
winning children's book on the topic and gave a wonderful program
for our adult audience.
The program began with how the idea of Rosie the Riveter got
started then moved to the variety of roles taken on by "Rosies",
particularly in the Detroit area, as men joined the military.
Just a few of the topics discussed were the symbolism in the
Norman Rockwell painting [and Saturday Evening Post cover], the Rosie the Riveter song by Kay Kyser, and Willow Run.
