This person reports to the library director and plans, coordinates and implements programs, special events, publications, media relations and meeting room bookings for the library. *Required skills, education and training: * - Artistic and creative ability to facilitate the design of printed pieces, displays and other presentations - Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications - Knowledge, skill and ability in the area of desktop publishing (InDesign, PhotoShop, Adobe Reader, PowerPoint, Microsoft Expression, Joomla) - Ability to express self clearly and concisely in both in oral and written form - Must be a self-starter, able to manage multiple projects effectively and to meet deadlines - Desire to meet and serve the public *Desired skills, education and training:* - Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts, journalism, communications or related field, as well as experience with desktop publishing *Essential Functions of the job:* This person will be able to share and perform the following essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation: · Plans and implements a proactive media relations program · Writes and designs a newsletter which is mailed to the entire library service area four times per year · Writes news releases for all programs and events, special announcements, changes in service, and promotes community awareness of library’s resources, services and programs · Creates flyers and posters for library and Friends of RHPL activities · Designs the library’s annual report · Selects printers based on competitive bids · Tracks program attendance statistics · Monitors media coverage of library programs · Contacts local businesses for donations to support programs as necessary · Writes grant proposals for programs and exhibits · Plans and coordinates library programs for adults · Assists youth services librarians in program planning · Handles meeting room bookings · Creates exciting and innovative programming consistent with the mission of the library · Cultivates partnerships for joint community projects · Assists library–related organizations in the coordination of special events, activities and programs · Updates online calendar, events web page, and plasma TV in the library lobby *Critical Mental Requirements* Continuously: · Supervises arrangements and assists with organization of receptions, public meetings, and fund-raisers for the library and Friends’ organization Frequently: · Able to work independently and assume responsibility. · Able to work effectively with associates supervisors and customers. · Able to be flexible, work under short time constraints, and meet deadlines · Able to make administrative decisions, interpret policies. · Able to interact with co-workers and supervisors. · Able to interact with the public.
