This year's workshop theme is Librarian Grab Bag: Tools of the Trade, and will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 9 am - 1 pm at the Ferndale Area District Library. Workshop check-in begins at 9 am, with the first workshop session beginning at 9:30 am. Continental breakfast and workshop materials will be provided. Session 1: Summer Reading, 9:30 am - 10:30 am Jakki Malnar and Kelly Ray from the Bacon Memorial District Library will talk about the improvements they made to their summer reading program and the success they have had since. Nichole Welz and Alyssa Beesley from Canton Public Library will discuss their library's independent summer reading program, its success, and online component. Session 2: Virtual Readers' Advisory, 10:45 am - 11:45 am Readers' Advisory expert, Becky Spratford will share her tricks and tips for navigating virtual readers' advisory. Although she will not recommend or evaluate specific social media platforms, Becky will leave you with an overall philosophy and key strategies that can be easily implemented at your library across a variety of digital platforms. Session 3: Professional Development, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Cory Grimminck of the Portland District Library will discuss why professional development is important, what works and what doesn't, and how to participate without breaking the bank. Rates are as follows: $15 for TLN members, $20 for non-TLN members, and $10 for library/information science students. The registration deadline is September 18, 2015.
