We had a scare with bed bugs (luckily it wasn't) and as a result we solidified a pest prevention plan that we have staff follow to help in the event that they see a pest on incoming items. We also mist any packaging before we use it with alcohol and let it sit. It's supposed to help eliminate pests from getting in through shared packing materials (This was suggested by Orkin). I've attached what we have staff follow for handling possible pest exposure since our scare. Hopefully it can be of some help.

At Hazel Park, we use Rose for a quarterly inspection.  (We would do it monthly if we could afford to.)  They bring out a K-9 who does a thorough inspection.  The K-9 once detected a tiny fragment of bedbug fecal matter in the spine of a book and went bananas!  Of course, this does not prevent an infestation, but it lets us know if there is one.

I don't think we do anything to prevent per se.  We mostly check incoming materials-- and I doubt that's done very rigorously.

For quite a few years we were having a semi annual bed bug sniffing dog out to check the facility. The company changed hands & they no longer offer that service.
