Dear Michigan Libraryland (Michlib-L and TLN)
In case you didn't know this existed, there is an annual conference just for Library Marketing called the Library Marketing & Communications Conference (LMCC) and it is scheduled to take place this November 7th & 8th in Indianapolis, Indiana. I attended last year (after just discovering it), and I'm hoping to make it this year but it hasn't been determined yet, and I have to say every single session is focused on some aspect of library marketing and communications. IF you want to further your professional development and network with peers doing the same things, or cool things you can bring back to your library, see if you can attend. I wouldn't want anyone who could benefit from this to miss it just because they don't know about it!
There is also a Library Marketing Book Club based on Facebook and run by a really cool library marketer who manages a marketing department for the Jacksonville District Library in Florida, Chris B. who is one of the nicest, most helpful library marketers I've ever met. If you have the time, try to attend one of the virtual book club meetings. As you can tell by the name of the group, they read a marketing book each month and discuss it and how it relates to library marketing.
Lastly, I want to extend an invitation to anyone in a library marketing role who is proud of a project, or some achievement, or has a cool skill to share, OR has a question or questions about some aspect of library marketing, to reach out to me at
rothleyk@gmail.com. I have a podcast that I do on my own time, called Library Marketing for Library Marketers, focused on conversations around social media, policies, email campaigns, successful ads, press releases, lessons learned, etc... I hope you'll consider reaching out to me. We just have to figure out our schedules!
If you belong to a consortium that is not TLN, please consider sharing this with your consortium listserv.
My sincere thanks,
Katie
