Building Literacy in Every Library: How to Develop Fun Programs that Support Reading for School Age Children Part 1

Learn how to implement programs and services that will provide literacy support for early readers ages 5-9. An expert in the field of elementary education will speak about the key concept of why it’s essential for children to develop critical thinking skills as they learn how to read. We will discuss how important it is to know the parts of a story and how to develop knowledge of new words in order to gain a greater understanding of the text. We’ll share ideas for programs, book recommendations and reader’s advisory that will help connect with children and caregivers on the subject of literacy.

This webinar is on 10/29 at 1pm CST/2pm ET. Register today!

As the months wore on, though, we wanted to offer something new AND empower our families to read, sing, play, talk, and write together without waiting for the next video or Zoom session. Thus, Storytime-to-Go was born!

Ready to Read Michigan

The Library of Michigan is excited to share that the following materials were sent directly to public library directors on 10/2/20, as part of our Ready to Read Michigan program! Due to limited quantities purchased I cannot share the links widely via this listserv, but once your director forwards them to staff you are free to download the materials and use as you see fit to engage your patrons/community. If you cannot find the email with the links please message me directly via your official work email for a copy.

The project described was supported by the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five Initiative (PDG B-5), Grant Number 90TP0002, from the Office of Child Care, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Office of Child Care, the Administration for Children and Families, or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) 2021 Manual
The “Tails & Tales” 2021 CSLP Manual is now live! However, we have only purchased 1 access code per library, so an email went out on 9/25/20, directly to all library directors, with the code (we will not be snail mailing it this year, only email). If you are the summer library program coordinator at your library, please look for a forwarded message from your director or message me directly with an official work email for a copy of your code.  Manuals, graphics and more are available for download, printing, or you can continue to access it online through the library account. Please do not share the manual outside your library. The CSLP 2021 Tails & Tales shop is also now open, until the Library of Michigan re-opens I will not be able to mail out any catalogs, so please browse online: https://www.cslpreads.org/cslp-store/. Artwork this year is done by Salina Yoon.  I think you’ll be as excited as I am to see the programs & art!
This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
