The Indian River Area Library is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic candidate to work as a Library Page. A Page position is meant to give you knowledge about what it means to work within a library system. You will have access to a wealth of knowledge and experience which will allow you to decide if the library is where you want to begin your career. The Library is looking for candidates that demonstrate a strong work ethic, are reliable, committed to providing quality public service, and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment.
The Indian River Area Library is a Class II Library, serving over 4,000 community members. We are located in the heart of downtown Indian River, Michigan, right in the center of town.
HOURS: Part-time, hourly wage, 12-15 hours weekly. May require an occasional Saturday or evening shift.
COMPENSATION: $12 per hour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs routine tasks under the supervision of a Librarian
· Shelving items returned to the Library
· Shelf Reading: “Reading” the shelves to determine if Library materials are in their proper place
· Assist staff with day-to-day materials operations and special events
· Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Be a citizen of the United States or resident alien with the right to work in the United States
· Work permit is required if under 18 years old
· Ability to file alphabetically and numerically with reasonable speed and accuracy
· Ability to lift, bend, reach, handle, and carry Library materials, equipment, and supplies at a minimum of 20 lbs. and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
· Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and establish effective working conditions with fellow employees
· Ability to follow specific oral and written instruction
EDUCATION: Working on or completed high school degree.
EXPERIENCE: None. Entry level position. Previous customer service experience and/or experience working in a library preferred.
