Composed
of over 700 islands, the Caribbean is a place with diverse culture and history.
Caribbean Search,
an eResource available from MeL, is the premier destination for information
about this region of the world. With more than 770 trade publications, journals, biographies, newspapers, magazines, eBooks, and country economic reports, it provides an in-depth look at the region and its people. Examples of some popular publications that
can be searched via Caribbean Search include:
Caribbean Search places the work of researchers and scholars online, rather than just in print, so that access to this knowledge, as well as history, culture, and travel is widely
available. To learn more about the importance of the content in Caribbean Search, watch this
video from EBSCO that shares interviews with Caribbean librarians
and scholars.
Content in Caribbean Search has materials in English, French, and Spanish. EBSCO searching includes field codes which are two letter abbreviations set to search specific terms.
To search for materials in French or Spanish, use the field code LA. For example, a search for biographical information in Spanish would be
biography AND LA Spanish. To locate the field codes that work within EBSCO’s Caribbean Search, click the question mark icon next to the search box and then scroll down the menu and choose
Database Help. Click on Caribbean Search and then choose Searchable Fields to view the applicable codes. This method will work in any EBSCO eResource to find applicable field codes.
With the option to search in multiple languages, as well as content for travelers and researchers alike, Caribbean Search from
MeL is an excellent eResource to learn more about this fascinating
region.
