I am shamelessly plugging the comedy documentary, The Coexist Comedy Tour.
The film is produced by 8180 Films, owned by Leland residents Rebecca Reynolds and Jim Carpenter. Jim and Becky were long-time board members for the hugely successful Beyond-the-Bay Film Festival series, making those films available free to all Leelanau County Libraries.
The Coexist Comedy Tour, is available on DVD at the end of January through Kino Lorber, http://www.kinolorber.com/index.php
Some quick info on the film:
– It debuted at Traverse City's Winter Comedy Arts Festival in February 2013.
– It won Best Documentary Film at VisionFest13 in June 2013 at the Tribeca Cinemas in New York City.
– It documents a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Christian, an atheist and a Jew – six comedians from six different belief systems as they try to coexist for one night of comedy.
"After one comic bails, the live comedy concert film that started as an exercise in co-existence turns into a documentary, as the filmmakers desperately go in search of a funny Christian.
What in God's name could possibly go wrong?"
“A hilarious concert movie as well as a behind-the-scenes documentary, The Coexist Comedy Tour is one religious service you won't want to miss. Featuring: John Fugelsang (VH1, America's Funniest Home Videos), Moshe Kasher, Sammy Obeid, Tapan Trivedi, Tissa Hami and Keith Lowell Jensen.”
