Basic Cataloging and Classification

Through practical information and hands-on exercises, you will gain an understanding of cataloging practices, rules, and tools, as well as the nuts and bolts of copy cataloging. 

 

In this four-week course, you will learn:

·    An overview of cataloging

·    Classification systems and MARC format

·    Basic copy cataloging for print material

·    Basic copy cataloging for non-print material

 

This four-week course runs January 10 to February 6, 2023.

 

Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC): This course is approved as covering the Cataloging and Classification competencies for the LSSC program.



Time Required: 2 to 2½ hours per week, with options for further study and application. Participants can work on each module at their own pace, at any hour of the day or night. However, it is recommended that participants complete each week's assignments within that week to stay in sync with other learners.
