WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 38 hours per week, including some
evening and weekend hours
SALARY RANGE: $28,000 – 40,000; benefits include health, insurance,
paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave, numerous continuing education
opportunities, and paid membership in a professional organization.
JOB SUMMARY: The Youth
Librarian is responsible for coordinating and
evaluating the delivery of library services to youth, providing direct
public services at the Youth Desk, and participating in collection
development activities. Daily activities
may include working with the library
director to develop budgets, coordinating the efforts of 2-4 part-time staff
members to provide excellent service to youth, developing special projects
to enhance the library experience for patrons ages birth to 18, and performing
outreach and promoting the youth services department within the community.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree with a preferred minimum of
2 years public
library experience. Commitment to customer service
excellence. Excellent
oral and written communication skills. Expertise with computer technology and
an understanding of its potential in providing
high quality library
services. Ability to organize multiple assignments
and work
independently. Demonstrated initiative and creative approach to
attaining departmental goals. Knowledge of youth
and teen literature and
the philosophy and techniques of library
service for children and teens.
Additionally, to perform the essential functions of the
position, an
individual may be required to maintain a physical condition necessary
for sitting, walking, and/or standing for long periods of
time;
lifting or carrying light to moderately heavy objects; operating
assigned equipment, including computers.
