The Bloomfield Township Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic librarian committed to high quality library service to children and their families and ready to join the Youth Services team.  The Bloomfield Township Public Library is a class V library, with a service population of 42,000+ people.  There is strong community support for the library, collections, services and programs offered.  The library promotes inclusivity in the diverse collections and programs available to all ages and abilities.  Technology is integrated into library services.  The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to provide quality public service and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment.

 

Position Title:     Librarian

 

Department:      Youth Services, reporting to Department Head

 

Hours:                  Part-time, 20 hours weekly, including evenings and weekends.

 

Wages &             $20.61 per hour, increasing to $21.14 per hour after successfully completing a 90 day orientation period.  Pro-rated paid time-off benefits, i.e. sick

Requirements:

Minimum:  ALA accredited masters in Library and Information Science; experience working with children; a high level of energy and self-motivation to create, publicize and conduct new programs; Desire to serve the public, and specifically children, in a positive, energetic manner.  Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills to work effectively with staff, volunteers and library users in a team environment.  Familiarity with Windows-based computers; flexible with scheduling; able to lift, push, and/or pull at least 20 pounds; able to visually review materials and discern voice and audible tones.

Desirable:  Public library work experience; successful experience presenting developmentally appropriate programs for young people; knowledge of children’s literature; experience with selection and budgeting of material for children.  Familiarity with current technologies and social media.

 

Responsibilities:  Provides positive, professional service to the public; plans and conducts developmentally appropriate programs for young people (birth thru middle school) and their families; provides reference and readers advisory; participates in the selection, development and evaluation of youth print, non-print, and electronic resources; prepares bibliographies, guides and displays; instructs patrons in the use of downloadable material; selects and maintains youth databases; develops and conducts outreach programs to the community; contributes to the library website.
