Due to a retirement, the Northville District Library seeks an enthusiastic, accomplished, and innovative Librarian for a full-time position as its Assistant Director.

Position: Assistant Director
40 hours per week, including some weekends and evenings

Salary Range:  $65,000-$70,000 based upon prior work experience

Benefits: Health Insurance (medical, dental, and vision), disability insurance,and MERS retirement.  Paid time off includes sick, vacation, holiday, and personal business time.

Essential Duties Include:

Assists with the day-to-day operation of the library and serves in absence of director
Develops and implements library procedures
Leads special fundraising projects as assigned 
Manages eContent collection with Digital Services Librarian
Oversees the library’s marketing, public relations, and social media activities 
Recommends changes in programs and services based upon new developments in the library field
Schedules librarian service desk hours
Supervises Digital Services Librarian, PR Associate, and Substitute Librarians
Cultivates and maintains liaison relationships with the Northville District Library Board of Trustees, the Friends of the Northville District Library, and Northville Public Schools
Communicates effectively with staff and patrons
Participates in Continuing Education opportunities, especially those which spotlight new trends and technology in library marketing efforts and innovation in digital branding

Required Qualifications:

Master Degree in library science from an ALA-accredited college or university
Possess a Level I Permanent Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan
Five years’ experience in a library setting with a minimum of three years of prior experience supervising personnel and managing budgets
Ability to adapt to change in work environment
Ability to create new services and procedures incorporating new theories and technologies as applicable
Critical thinking skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills
Experience in working independently and as part of a team
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and the public
Strong public service orientation

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and community relations
Ability to develop and implement creative marketing approaches to reach targeted audiences
Awareness of public library trends, issues, and emerging technologies
Experience with community fundraising
