The Ferndale Library will be hosting a virtual (ZOOM) discussion of the PBS documentary American Creed on Saturday, October 3, moderated by history professor and humanities scholar Gregory Sumner, Ph.D., of U-D Mercy.

The film explores questions like: Who are we? Is there a useful “Unum” to be salvaged from our increasingly fractious “Pluribus?" Where are we headed as individual citizens and as a people?

Sumner will talk about ways in which we can constructively explore America’s ideals and identity. In American Creed, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David M. Kennedy come together from different points of view for a spirited investigation of the idea of a unifying American creed. Their inquiry frames stories of citizen-activists seeking to realize their own visions of America’s promise across divides.
