We're in a slightly odd position. There is a Friends FB page for our library. No one knows who's doing it. It's none of our current Friends, and it does get updated.

So, that being said, it would probably be good for them to create a page, so someone else doesn't do it for them.

Our Friends group has a separate FB account from the library and it doesn't seem to create any confusion, although they also don't post anything that I'm worried about.  Our is handled by a Friends volunteer and what to post is discussed at each monthly Friends meeting.  The Friends don't post half as much as the library does and we (the library) follow the Friends and always re-post whatever they post.  I don't believe they have ever posted a solicitation for donations - like most libraries, we are also overwhelmed with donations - but they do post about upcoming book sales, Friends fundraisers, and occasionally a library event like a book signing.  They're not especially active on social media but we like having just one more means of communication.  We also just recently started a very short newsletter to Friends members just to remind them where their dollars go and to keep encouraging book sales - each month we have a different "sale" like April earth/gardening book, May Mysteries, June beach reads - they either get a free book in the category or a BOGO for that category and we're not too strict about the categories.  If they think it fits, it fits.  I'll forward one of their newsletters to you.

Subject: [Michlib-l] Friends of the Library - Facebook Page

Hi all,
I'm wondering how many of your friends group have a facebook or other social media presence. 
Our Friends have decided that social media will be the answer to their perceived downturn in bookstore purchasing.

I have strong concerns about this including, but not limited to... 
  1. Lack of public understanding that the 'friends' page is NOT the 'library page.' 
  2. A 'volunteer' who will be representing the library via social media account that is potentially confused with the library account.  
  3. An account which encourages donations to be dropped off ALL. THE. TIME. 
  4. I'm sure there is something else to worry about here... 

Just looking to see what other library friend groups are doing in this regard.
