Hi Alyssa, I'm sure many libraries do this - the Roseville Public Library supervisors give out $5 and $10 gift cards to Tim Horton's, Starbucks and Dairy Queen in a card thanking them for giving great customer service, being good coworkers and having wonderful ideas to make the library better. While dollar value of the cards doesn't seem to be very important to them, but the acknowledgment is important. We also have a couple of ice cream days in the summer when I purchase (with my money, not library money), many boxes of ice cream novelties just to thank them for being great coworkers. Finally, I purchase (again with my own money, not library money) 8 - 10 boxes or bags of sweets (normally from Costco) and have a drawing for them on the major holidays. We are looking for fresh and fun ways to show staff that they are valued and appreciated. I would love to hear low cost (or free!) things your libraries do to acknowledge staff's hard work and improve workplace morale.
