An exciting opportunity to take a well-respected library to
the next step in
providing outstanding service! The Board of Trustees of the
Allegan (MI)
District Library seeks a visionary leader who will continue
the tradition of a
positive, collegial culture to become the Library’s next
Director. The
Allegan District Library is an independent governing unit,
serving a population
of over 17,000 with an operating budget of nearly $600,000 and
a staff of 14 (3
with MLIS degree). The original Carnegie building is poised
for a major
addition and renovation in late 2016 (for more details visit:

Allegan, located in southwest Michigan, is a charming

The
position requires
a Masters degree in
library science or library and information science from a
program accredited by
the American Library Association and a minimum
of four (4) years
post-degree experience in a professional public library
position, of which at
least two (2) years have been in a position of administration
and supervision
in a public library.
The
successful candidate will have
a thorough knowledge of all facets of public library service;
an enthusiasm for
and understanding of small-town librarianship; the ability to
manage and
prioritize multiple projects; excellent communications skills;
strong financial
management abilities; the ability to work effectively with
other governmental
agencies, civic and community groups, and the general public;
and the ability
to address challenges in a collaborative and creative manner.
Experience with a
library building or renovation project is highly desirable.
Familiarity with a district
library governance
and knowledge of Michigan library law would be a plus.

Compensation:
From
$60,000, dependent on experience and educational
qualifications. Excellent
benefit package.
