Library Director
The Cheboygan Area Public Library is seeking an inspiring leader to guide the organization into its next exciting chapter. You could lead a library in any number of locations; so why not lead one where you are truly surrounded by four seasons of nature, the warmth of a small-town community, and more recreational fresh water than the eyes can see, all on the sunrise side of the state?

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in community collaboration, strategic planning, millage campaigns, and be a champion of staff to empower them and help them grow as library professionals.
The library is a District Library encompassing the City of Cheboygan and six (6) adjoining Townships. The library has an operational budget of $870,000.00 that provides services to 14,000 Northern Cheboygan County residents. This Class IV library was expanded and remodeled in 2006. The library offers robust community programming in a wide variety of formats. The lower level of the library is dedicated to community programming, and includes five (5) public meeting rooms, one of which is an art studio.
Qualifications: Candidates must be able to meet and maintain the requirements set by the Library of Michigan for a Class IV library. MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, 4-5 years of management experience in a public library setting preferred, Michigan Librarian I certification, up to date with current issues and trends in libraries, and familiarity with small-town libraries. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated attention to detail, along with experience developing and managing an operating budget.
Salary and benefits: $60,000 - $70,000 starting salary, based on experience. A generous benefit package including health insurance, paid time off, and a retirement package with 12% of the director’s base salary being matched and contributed to retirement.
