The Board of Trustees of the Redford Township (MI) District Library is seeking a visionary leader with a strong commitment to public library service to join its exceptional team. The Redford Township District Library has an independent Board of Trustees and enjoys tremendous public support. In November 2014 voters approved an additional millage request by more than a 2/3 majority, returning the library to financial stability. The class V library is housed in a 65,000 square foot facility built in 2004, has an operating budget of nearly $1.8 million, a staff of 37 (8 MLIS), and serves a diverse population of nearly 50,000. The library takes pride in providing an outstanding collection, a beautiful facility and friendly staff who make customer service a top priority. The position requires an MLS/MLIS from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association. Additional requirements include: at least six years of professional library experience, of which five or more have been in management or supervisory roles; a thorough knowledge of public library service and trends; proven experience in successful financial management; an understanding of technology and its application in public libraries; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with many diverse groups. The successful candidate will have experience working with local government officials and building upon community partnerships.
