At Romulus we have a nice magazine shelving unit. We circulate the current and past 6 months of all magazines, 3 months if they are published 3-4 times a month (like newspapers). Patrons will read in the library and they check them out. We do have the occasional wear and tear. But it works for us and the damage is usually normal wear and tear you expect. I know several patrons that will grab a few especially if they are planning a road trip during the summer for easy reading. We really don't have a theft problem with serials. When we withdraw the older magazines our Friends group bundle several issues and then sell them. They are constantly being sold. When I worked at Melvindale, we sold the back issues as well, and they would always get purchased. I would keep that in mind too.
