Calling All Upper Peninsula Librarians: Help Shape the Future of U.P. Literature
The Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association (UPPAA) is seeking a dedicated librarian to fill a vacant position on its Board of Directors.
For almost three decades, UPPAA has worked to promote the written word throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula by supporting authors, publishers, booksellers, educators, and readers. Librarians have always been among our most valued partners because libraries serve as the heart of literary life in communities across the U.P.
As a board member, you would help guide programs that encourage reading, writing, publishing, literacy, and lifelong learning. The position offers an opportunity to strengthen connections between libraries and the region's vibrant community of authors and publishers while helping to preserve and celebrate the unique stories of the Upper Peninsula.
We are particularly interested in hearing from public, school, academic, and special librarians who are passionate about:
Promoting regional literature and local authors
Encouraging literacy and lifelong learning
Supporting writing and publishing initiatives
Building partnerships among cultural and educational organizations
Expanding opportunities for readers throughout the U.P.
Board meetings are conducted virtually, making participation practical regardless of location within the Upper Peninsula. Directors also have opportunities to contribute to UPPAA's annual conference, the U.P. Notable Book List, educational workshops, and other programs that support the literary community.
If you believe libraries play a vital role in preserving the stories, history, and culture of the Upper Peninsula, we invite you to consider serving on the UPPAA Board of Directors.
The next two-year term begins on January 1, 2027 and runs through December 31, 2028.
To express interest or learn more about the position, please contact UPPAA President Victor R. Volkman at president@uppaa.org
Your experience as a librarian can help ensure that the voices and stories of the Upper Peninsula continue to inspire future generations.
